Backstory

Jennifer Forrest grew up near the Rockies. In most ways she lived a normal life. She had good friends, and not so good friends, she went through high school and even went to the prom with her boyfriend. Above all else however Jennifer loved the outdoors. She spent her winters skiing, snowboarding and even snowshoeing. Her summers were spent canoeing and hiking through the wilderness. By the time she had her diploma she was a guide and instructor for numerous outdoor activities.

Her extreme regimen kept her from entering any serious relationships as no one could ever match up to the grandeur of the natural world. Her skiing activities were her greatest focus. Every winter break was spent at a cabin in the mountains. During her teen years her family had initially tried to get her to come home for Christmas at least, but eventually they gave up and simply started celebrating the holiday in the mountains. Jennifer would get up first and be out the door before anyone else was awake. All day she explored the back country. Her family and friends would ski for a few hours of the day and Jennifer was always there to guide them someplace new but when they tired she went out again by herself. Even on the coldest days of the year she was quite happy on the snow.

Gradually her obsession with the winterland gained her the nickname Snow Girl. After high school Jennifer's winter activities were two-fold. On most days she would ski a while in the morning, then host a class, or provide guidance to good ski locations. On her off days however Jennifer would pack her gear, and go in search of extreme places to ski or snowboard. It was during one of these explorations that she found an area that tempted her. Conditions were not optimal, but there shouldn't be any avalanches. The way down seemed navigable. Jennifer shucked off her extra gear, and coat. She clipped into her snowboard and set off downwards. Thirty seconds later she was in a race for her life as a wall of snow broke loose. It became quickly apparent to Jennifer that she was not going to win. The wave of alabaster engulfed her.

For a moment she panicked and then instinct took over. She reached out with her arms and stretched until they broke the surface. With a gasp she climbed out of the abstractly cold snow. Looking around she realized that the snow must be at least ten feet deep. Climbing out alive was a miracle. A careful examination of the slope above her made it clear that a direct path up was impossible. However about 50 meters to the side was a rocky area that might be climbable. She absently moved her hand to grab an energy bar from her pocket, but instead encountered bare flesh. In shock she looked downward and discovered that she was quite naked. Somehow her bare feet were quite content on the snow and the rest of her felt as comfortable as on an early fall afternoon.

Her brain refused to examine the situation as it was clearly impossible. Instead it went to the more possible work of figuring out what she was going to wear back to the lodge she worked at. Not knowing why she reached down into the snow. As she withdrew her hand, a gown of frost came with it. She slipped her body into the frozen but comfortable outfit and started to climb across the face. Before she new it she was at the rocks. After a much longer time she reached her coat and skis. Donning her coat was easy, but the skis were perplexing without boots. Jennifer considered the gown she was wearing and decided to try and duplicate her efforts with her feet, willing ski boots to form. However rather than just ski boots, Jennifer had pulled boots and skis of ice from the snow. With a shrug she pushed off for home, determined to not think about the day for the moment.

Jennifer quickly discovered that she was able to travel much faster on her “new” skis. She waited out of sight of the lodge until the sun had set and then skiied up to the back door. Unconsciously the skis fell apart as she attempted their removal. With a deep breath she slipped in the door and headed straight for her room. She pushed past a friend in the hallway and ran to her room, locking her door shut behind her. Finally safe at home Jennifer relaxed. Suddenly her feet began to feel wet. Looking down she realized that she was standing in a pile of snow. Her gown and boots had given out and returned to their constituent flakes. With a sigh she pulled on a new outfit, leaving her coat on her bed. She decided that today didn't happen and went out of her room to relax with her friends.

A month later Jennifer had resisted temptation and nothing else strange had happened. She was finally convincing herself that the bizarre incident was in her imagination. Recently she had a new face in her lessons. His name was Jeremy Cornell and he had an air about him that attracted everyones attention. Every day he seemed to pick a new girl for his attentions, scorning his previous targets of affection. Each day Jennifer also noticed that the previous girls seemed constantly distracted. She couldn't guess what Jeremy was doing but she knew it was bad.

After a week of this Jeremy turned his attentions to Jennifer and her life would change forever.
